There are three kinds of fingerprint enhanced e-Passports that the Nigerian Immigration Service gives out. Normal passports (green) for Nigerians and comes in 32-page/5-year at N100,000, 64-page/5-year, and 64-page/10-year at N200,000. Official Passports (blue) for the Government officials and Diplomatic passports.
TYPES of passport:
1: e-Passport
The Enhanced E-Passport is part of the new reforms approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It is a product of intensive review of the existing e-passport booklet which has been in circulation for over 10 years and has only 5-year validity.

2: Official Passport
• Eligibility
– Commissioners (members of the State Executive Council), Special Assistants and Special Advisors
– Senior Government Officials in the rank of Deputy Directors and above in the Federal Civil Service
– Senior Government Officials from the rank of Directors and above in the State Civil Service
– Deputy General Managers and above in Federal and State Parastatals
– Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Secretaries of Local Government Councils
– Staff from the rank of Deputy Director and above in CBN and their equivalent in Federal owned Banks and allied institutions
– Colonel and above in the Army and their equivalent in the Navy and Air force
– ACP and above (NPF), ACSIO in DSS
– AC and above in paramilitary Services
– Vice and Deputy Vice Chancellors of Federal and State Universities and their equivalents in the Polytechnics and Colleges of Education
– Immigration, Military and Police Officers on Peace keeping Missions
– 1st Class Traditional Rulers / Chiefs
– Senior Government Officials i.e., GL.08-14 on Official assignment abroad provided there is an SGF / SSG approval for such official trips.
Requirements

3: Diplomatic Passport:
Eligibility
Nigerian Diplomats and other top Government Officials as may be approved by the President.
Requirement
1. Letter of application / introduction from the Applicant’s Organization.
2. Two (2) passport photographs.
3. Last promotion letter or Letter of Appointment.
4. Photocopy of valid official identity card.
5. Evidence of Age.
6. Certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) (in the case of eligible Political Office holders).
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE NIGERIAN INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT:
FOR FRESH PASSPORT:
How To Apply For Standard Passport you can use to travel if you are not a government official as stated above:
Fresh (First) Passport Application.
If you are a Nigerian citizen, choose citizen by birth during application.
All Citizens of Nigeria either by Birth, Descent, Adoption, Registration or Naturalization are eligible for a Nigerian Passport, provided they satisfy all conditions prescribed by law. Nigerian Citizens by Naturalization, Registration, Adoption and Surrogacy can only process their applications at the NIS Headquarters, Abuja.
Step 1: Visit https://passport.immigration.gov.ng. If you are applying from Nigeria, you click on the green button continue, but if you are applying from outside Nigeria, you click on the red background button. You will see Apply for Fresh Passport, Apply for renewal/re-isssue, apply for correction of data, Resume/edit application, status, print receipt, book appointment. If you applying newly click on fresh passport, if you already have and it has expired or lost, click on apply for renewal or re-issue.
Step 2: Enter your Nigerian National Identification number, NIN. Enter your date of birth that is on your NIN and solve the capcha challenge, click verify. When you details pops up from the NIN portal to the immigration portal, you check if they are correct, then proceed.
Step 3: Upload birth certificate from NPC or declaration of age from high court, state of origin certificate, passport datapage, make payment and book appointment. (Click on any of the buttons below to commence application)
Step 4: Submit your payment and appointment slips in person at the passport office you selected during the online application, on your scheduled appointment date.
Step 5: Note that Nigerians in the Diaspora are to submit application at the nearest Nigeria Embassy/High Commission or Consulate.
Note: Applicants are required to appear at chosen Immigration Office for photograph and biometric data capturing.
Step 6: After you have filled and submitted your application, click on book appointment, select the immigration office or embassy nearest to you and book appointment. Make sure you choose a date convenient for you because in some centers you may not have the opportunity reschedule the appointment.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before you visit immigration office for bio-metric capture after you have submitted your application, first login to the immigration portal again by clicking this link https://track.immigration.gov.ng/ and click on track application to check if your application online has been vetted or approved. Then print out the application details and the schedule appointment slip and visit the nearest immigration office you chose for appointment.
To check or reschedule your immigration appointment visit https://appointments.immigration.gov.ng/reschedule and enter your Appointment Tracking Number and surname name. you can now reschedule your appointment.
