Few police departments have a vehicle that can compete with a Dodge Scat Pack, whether it’s a Charger or Challenger. While there are a few law enforcement agencies that have some of these or even Hellcats and Redeyes in their fleets, they are quite the exception. That’s why this chase between the Michigan State Police and a Dodge Charger Scat Pack through the streets of Detroit is anything but a fair fight.
See the cars stripped and abandoned in Detroit.
Sure enough, after a soldier sees the Mopar muscle car driving recklessly, he can easily drive away. While traffic and stoplights help the officer keep the suspect in sight, as soon as there is a big straight line with not many other cars, the suspect blacks out and turns off all the lights in an attempt to disappear.
The only thing is, in a city with street lights and other vehicles that do have their lights on, turning yours off only makes you more noticeable, especially to the police. If you try to run from the police in a city, you will notice that there are more swarms nearby, including getting off in front of the place you are going.
This quickly becomes a battle between Charger and Charger as another MSP unit takes the lead and quickly closes the gap. As this new lead comes close and makes contact on a right turn, you can see that the suspect’s charger has an R/T badge. Even though the video says it’s a Scat Pack, is it possible that’s not true?
We know that some people will remove the factory badging on their higher equipment cars and apply lower equipment badging to make them more sleepy or stealthy. While this isn’t very common since most people like to brag about having a more powerful muscle car, it’s possible that’s the case here. But it would explain why the MSP charger can hold on without any problems, at least until there is another one right away and the suspect shoots out onto the road.
From there it gets more exciting. Through a sharp right turn, the suspect’s Mopar takes too much of an outside line and lands on the sidewalk, shooting into the air as sparks fly from the chassis. The impact simply destroys the muscle car and that’s the end of the chase, but the beginning of the foot chase.
This chase just goes to show that even if you have a technically superior car, poor driving skills can and probably will sabotage your attempts to get away. Don’t run from the police, kids!
