The Detroit Lions sign former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports this.

Adams will sign with Detroit’s practice squad with plans for him to eventually be promoted to the active roster, the report said. News of the deal comes as the Lions are in line for the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs. Detroit is 11-1 after a Thanksgiving win over the Chicago Bears.

Adams, 29, last played for the Tennessee Titans after signing as a free agent this offseason. He played sparingly in three games with the Titans before they released him in October.

Adams played seven previous NFL seasons with the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks. Adams was an All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler in three seasons with the Jets as one of the best defenders in the NFL.

The Jets traded Adams to the Seahawks in 2020 in exchange for a package that included two first-round draft picks. He signed a four-year, $71 million contract with the Seahawks, making him the NFL’s highest-paid safety at the time.

Adams was a Pro Bowler and a second-team All-Pro in his first season with the Seahawks, but then regressed in three injury-plagued seasons in Seattle. He played a total of 22 games in three seasons from 2021-23, and the Seahawks released him in 2024 to save salary cap space.

The Lions are presumably hoping that Adams can find some of his former All-Pro form in time to make a difference during the postseason.
