When Will Ferrell looks back on his time Saturday evening livehe has only good memories.
Amid the 50th season of the NBC sketch comedy show, the Emmy-winning actor recently reflected in an interview with People about his years as SNL cast member. Ferrell starred on the show from 1995 to 2002.
“I had seven great seasons on that show where I made lifelong friends,” he said. “I knew at that moment that this would be the hardest but most fun job I would ever do, and I still look back on it that way.”
During his time on the sketch comedy series, Ferrell appeared in numerous memorable sketches, including “Spartan Cheerleaders at Tryouts,” “More Cowbell,” and “Dr. Beaman’s Office: Test Results,” among others.
The Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy actor added that he is proud of all the success SNL has received for more than five decades.
“It’s really amazing that you have this live television show that continues to keep its finger on the pulse of what we’re all thinking about, and it’s a real credit to Carly Thomas Lorne [Michaels] for thinking of it in the first place,” Ferrell said. “It was the one thing I always dreamed of being a part of. … It’s kind of huge to think about, in a way, 50 years of what has really defined American comedy.
However, he’s okay with celebrating SNL‘ season 50 through his television screen, adding: ‘Thank God I don’t have to put the show together, whatever they plan to do, … because I don’t know how you can put together 50 years of great moments distill, spanning from music to comedy to cultural things, to a show.
