...Says prudent financial management, fiscal responsibility and accountability remain critical to sustainable development

ABUJA — An All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency in the immediate past APC primary election, Olorogun Amb. Frank Ossai, has commended the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, following the reported reduction of the state's inherited legacy debt from approximately ₦463 billion to ₦63 billion, representing a reduction of about ₦400 billion.
OLOROGUN FRANK OSSAI
Ossai, who made the commendation while speaking with newsmen in Abuja, described the development as a significant fiscal milestone deserving public attention, particularly given the enormous financial obligations inherited by the present administration. He noted that reducing such a substantial debt burden requires deliberate financial planning, sustained commitment and careful management of available public resources.

According to him, the reported development provides an important opportunity to assess the state's evolving financial position and the administration's approach to managing inherited liabilities. He observed that responsible debt management is essential to creating fiscal space for government to meet its obligations, sustain ongoing projects and direct more resources towards sectors that have a direct impact on citizens' welfare.

The APC chieftain further noted that the significance of the announcement extends beyond the figures, stressing that the ultimate measure of improved public finances should be reflected in better infrastructure, accessible healthcare, quality education, employment opportunities, rural development and improved living conditions across the state.

Ossai also described the reported intention of the state government to clear the outstanding ₦63 billion by the first quarter of 2027 as an important target, urging the administration to sustain its financial management approach and maintain transparency in the handling of public resources.

He emphasised that Deltans should continue to demand accountability and measurable development outcomes while recognising verifiable progress in public financial management. He added that the sustainability of the state's financial recovery would depend on maintaining fiscal discipline, strengthening internally generated revenue and ensuring that government expenditure delivers tangible value to the people.

The APC aspirant maintained that the reduction of the inherited legacy debt represents an important development in the state's public finance narrative and called for sustained attention to policies that promote economic stability, institutional accountability and inclusive development across the three senatorial districts of Delta State.

He urged the state government to consolidate on the reported achievement by ensuring that the anticipated financial relief translates into more visible development at the grassroots, particularly in communities that require improved roads, educational facilities, healthcare infrastructure and economic opportunities.
