The haters won’t admit that Jaguar’s new Type 00 concept looks like a modern version of the E-Type

Tonight Jaguar released its daring one Type 00 concept during Miami Art Week, with the pink and blue pair of coupes previewing the electric four-door GT that will come on the market in 2026 the first model to arrive Jaguar’s completely reinvented range. Much digital ink has been spilled over the Type 00’s radical looks and its extremely controversial logo redesign and associated brand campaign Whatever you think of the car, there’s no denying that this is the most anyone has talked about Jaguar in decades.

Personally, I’m a big fan of the Type 00, and while the haters won’t admit it, the concept has a legitimate design connection to one of the most iconic Jaguars in history. I think it really looks like how the E-type coupe would have been if it had remained in production for the past fifty years, and through the magic of Photoshop I created these side-by-side images to show just how connected these two Jaguars are. Now these comparison images are definitely not perfectly to scale; we don’t have dimensions, but the Type 00 is certainly much larger than the E type and rides on 23-inch wheels, so I’ve placed the cars in these images at roughly the same height so you can really see the similarities.

The Type 00 has Jaguar’s longest bonnet and dashboard axle ratio in some time, and a similar amount of rear overhang as the E-Type. I see the E-Type in the way the Type 00’s nose turns sharply downwards just in front of the wheels, and the rear diffuser somewhat mirrors the E-Type’s exhaust. The Type 00’s similarly shaped doors create cut lines like those of the E-Type’s doors and hood, with the lines used to house hidden cameras and storage space. Jaguar has also adopted the E-Type’s bonnet when viewed from above, with the Type 00 featuring a sleek panel with a horizontal line at the front and a perfect curve on the opposite side at the bottom of the windscreen, much like the section of the windshield. nose between the E-Type’s hood edge and the windshield.

There is a lot of ‘tumblehome’ (how much the greenhouse curves inwards along the sides towards the roof) on both cars, and the greenhouse tapers nicely towards the tailgate on both cars. Both cars have a wraparound windshield, although the Type 00’s side windows are angular at the C-pillar rather than curved. Also from above you can see how much the Type 00’s rear quarter panels curve back, almost identical to the E-Type, and how the apparently stubby tail actually has quite a bit of curve to it.

The faces of the cars are completely different and expressive in different ways, but there are still things like the sharp line of the Type 00’s front fender that reminds me of the E-Type. Again, the rear design of the Type 00 feels completely futuristic, but the rear fenders are equally wide and pronounced. The E-Type coupe’s side-hinged, slightly bulbous hatch has always delighted me, and the Type 00 has its own strange approach to a tailgate, with that metal panel moving up and forward to expose the cargo area.

So, what do you think? Am I completely crazy, or are you seeing the E-Type vibes? There is a right answer, and it agrees with me.
